The first is that once the slot of the screw head is damaged, the screw cannot be screwed out. The longer the length of the slot, the easier it is to be damaged in the process of being screwed.

In order to shorten the length of the notch, improve the ability of the notch to resist damage, and transmit the same amount of torsion, people think of using a cross groove, which can withstand the same torsion, but the length of a notch is shortened by half, which is resistant to damage. The ability has been greatly enhanced. The screwdriver was originally in the shape of a straight line and could not be used for cross-recessed screws. Only another cross-recessed screwdriver was produced corresponding to the cross-recessed screws. So there are two types of screwdrivers.

Slotted screws have been used since machines existed. It is impossible to replace all the screws on an old machine. The Phillips screwdriver cannot be used on the slot, and the screw with the slot is still in production and application, so keep the screwdriver. In this way, most of the new machines use cross recessed screws, and the old ones are still in use, so there is a situation where two screwdrivers are used at the same time.
